ToolsGrid's Scan to PDF converter merges high-performance Canvas 2D digital image processing with the native assembly capabilities of pdf-lib. When you photograph a document with your smartphone, images suffer from non-uniform lighting, hand shadows, and paper yellowing. Instead of sending sensitive scans to a remote cloud server, our engine cleans up the imagery directly on your device.

Our Document B&W mode utilizes the Bradley-Roth Local Adaptive Thresholding algorithm. By constructing a 2D integral image in a single pass ($O(N)$ time complexity), the algorithm calculates local spatial luminance across adaptive neighborhoods. It cleanly segments dark ink strokes from shadowed paper textures, outputting crisp high-contrast black text on a clean white background.

The Magic Color filter performs dynamic histogram percentile stretching combined with gamma midtone expansion. It equalizes background paper discoloration while selectively preserving chromaticity delta, allowing colored official stamps, ink signatures, and company logos to pop vividly. Once enhanced, frames are rendered into optimized JPEG byte streams and packaged directly into a structured PDF document in your browser, without sending the pages to ToolsGrid servers.

The optional AI audit is separate: if you use it, the pages you select are sent to Google's Gemini API.
How does Scanned Document Mode (CamScanner alternative) work?
Scanned Document Mode runs client-side image processing filters like Bradley-Roth adaptive thresholding (Document B&W) and dynamic level stretching (Magic Color). These algorithms automatically neutralize paper shadows, phone camera glare, and tungsten yellow casts, turning paper backgrounds clean white while making ink text crisp and legible.
Can I reorder and rotate scanned pages before compiling the PDF?
Yes. You can drag and drop thumbnail cards or click the touch-friendly move arrows to reorder pages, rotate individual pages in 90-degree increments, and select whether output pages conform to A4, US Letter, or match the exact aspect ratio of each scan.
Can I combine different file formats (JPG, PNG, WebP) into one PDF?
Yes. The compiler ingests mixed graphics (JPEG, PNG, and WebP), standardizes their color spaces and dimensions, and packages them into a single coherent document.
Does ToolsGrid impose page count limits or watermarks?
There are no watermarks and no registration. Each file can be up to 25 MB, PDF scans are limited to 15 pages, and overall capacity depends on your device's available memory.
Is my API Key and document secure?
Your API key is stored only in your browser (if you choose to save it), and requests go directly from your browser to Google's API, not through ToolsGrid servers. Note that when you run the optional AI audit, the pages you select are sent to Google, so avoid using it on documents you do not want to share. The rest of the tool (filters and PDF creation) runs locally in your browser.
